Swishing Tips

Posted .

Do you swish your mouth with mouthwash? If so, good for you! Swishing is a great way to kill bacteria and strengthen your teeth. However, that’s only the case if you use the right kind of mouthwash. To help you have a proper and effective rinsing routine, our dentist, Dr. Brawley Marze, has some helpful tips for you. Those tips are:

-Pour your preferred amount of mouthwash into a cup or into the lid of the mouthwash. Many prefer to use 20 millimeters or 4 teaspoons of mouthwash.

-Pour the mouthwash into your mouth.

-Close your lips and swish the liquid around. Make sure to swish for the suggested amount of time listed on the mouthwash label. If you need to, set a timer or count in your head. Most mouthwashes recommend swishing for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

-Gargle the mouthwash occasionally as you swish.

-When the time is up, spit the mouthwash into the sink.

-Before you begin swishing, make sure to use antibacterial or fluoride mouthwash. Antibacterial mouthwash kills bacteria and helps fight against gingivitis. Fluoride mouthwash strengthens the outer shell of your teeth and helps prevent cavities.
