Dentistry Topic Data Blog: Brushing Your Teeth

Are you ready to transform your smile for the holiday season? If so, it is important to improve your oral health care daily routines, including making sure your toothbrush treatments are up to the task. This includes a focus on making sure the toothbrush you are using is safe and effective, and capable of keeping your mouth clean.

The first step in making sure your toothbrush is right for you consists of making sure you purchased the right toothbrush. Ideally, the perfect toothbrush would be one that has extremely soft bristles that won’t hurt your tooth enamel and one that fits easily into your mouth for an easy clean. If you struggle with traditional toothbrushes, consider an alternative form such as an electric toothbrush.

Once your toothbrush is selected, always make sure you keep it in a safe and secure location that is free of contamination. This includes keeping it away from other toothbrushes, and in an open, unsealed area. Furthermore, do not share your toothbrush with others and do not use anyone else’s toothbrush.

Toothbrushes do wear down. Traditionally, a toothbrush will begin to wear down within 3 to 4 months, at which time it should be replaced. A child’s toothbrush typically wears out faster. If your toothbrush has become contaminated or if the bristles have worn down, replace it.
